Hay, Silage & Baling Contractors in Taranaki
Good feed starts with good timing. JFM Contracting handles the whole job from mowing and swathing through to baling, stacking, carting and silage pit compaction for farms across coastal Taranaki, from Rahotu to Oakura.
Our hay and silage services
Mowing
We cut grass when it's at the right stage for the feed you want to make. Cutting at the right time is one of the biggest factors in the quality of the silage or hay you end up with.
Swathing
Once it's cut, we swath the grass into even rows. Well-formed swaths help the crop wilt or dry evenly and make for faster, cleaner baling or harvesting.
Baling
We bale hay and silage so it's ready to wrap, stack or cart. Tell us what you're making and how you plan to store and feed it, and we'll plan the job around that.
Stacking of bales
We stack bales where you want them, whether that's in the shed, along a fence line or at a central feed-out point, so they're out of the way and easy to get to in winter.
Silage pit compaction
A silage pit is only as good as its compaction. Packing the pit tightly as it's filled pushes out air, which helps the silage ferment properly and cuts down on spoilage and waste when you open it. We compact your pit as it's filled so it's ready to cover.
Carting
Our tractor and trailer carting service moves bales and silage from the paddock to the shed, stack or pit, so the whole job is done by one team.

Booking your hay and silage work
The hay and silage season is the busiest time of year for agricultural contractors in Taranaki. The best way to get your work done when you want it is to get in touch before the season starts with:
- Your farm's location and the paddocks involved
- Roughly how many hectares you want cut
- Whether you're making silage, baleage or hay
- Where you want bales stacked or the pit built
Common questions
When is silage season in Taranaki?
It depends on the season and how fast your grass grows, but silage is usually made through late spring and early summer, with hay following once the weather settles. We'll work with you on timing for your farm.
What happens if it rains?
Weather is the biggest variable in feed making. If rain moves the plan, we'll keep you informed and reschedule as soon as conditions allow.
Can you cart and stack the bales as well?
Yes. We can bale, cart and stack in one job so your feed goes straight from the paddock to where it's stored.
