Maize & Grass Drilling in Coastal Taranaki
A crop or new pasture is only as good as its establishment. JFM Contracting drills maize and grass for farmers from Rahotu to Oakura, and can prepare the ground first so the whole job is handled by one local team.
Maize drilling
Maize is a valuable supplementary feed for Taranaki dairy farms, and a good crop starts at planting. We drill maize into well-prepared ground so seed goes in evenly and the crop gets away to a strong, even start.
If the paddock needs work first, we can plough, deep rip and power harrow before drilling, so the seedbed is ready on the day.
Grass drilling and regrassing
Whether you're regrassing after a crop, renewing tired pasture or repairing damaged paddocks, drilling puts seed at the right depth with good soil contact, which gives it the best chance to establish.
- Regrassing paddocks after maize or a summer crop
- Renewing run-down or damaged pasture
- Sowing new pasture after cultivation

Common questions
When should maize be planted in Taranaki?
Maize is usually planted in spring once soils have warmed up. Timing varies with the season and your location, so get in touch early and we'll plan your planting.
When is the best time to regrass?
Many Taranaki farmers regrass in autumn, after maize or a summer crop comes off, and some sow in spring. We can talk through what suits your farm.
Do I need to cultivate before drilling?
It depends on the paddock. Compacted or uneven ground often benefits from cultivation first. We can advise and do the ground preparation too.
